Epic Special Education Staffing is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) to support school-based Extended School Year (ESY) services within the Education / Teaching / Administration industry, partnering closely with our Healthcare & Medical Services teams. In this role, you will work under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist to help students with special needs build the skills they need to access their education, participate in school routines, and experience success in the classroom and beyond. As a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant School ESY professional, you will provide direct and small-group interventions to students with a range of disabilities, including developmental delays, autism spectrum disorders, learning disabilities, and physical or sensory challenges. Following the treatment plans and individualized education program (IEP) goals developed by the supervising OT and IEP team, you will implement targeted activities that support fine and gross motor development, handwriting and visual–motor integration, sensory regulation, self-care, and functional school participation. You will collect data on student performance, document services, and communicate observations that help guide ongoing clinical decision-making. Collaboration is central to this position. You will partner with teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and family members to integrate occupational therapy strategies into daily classroom routines and ESY programming. This includes adapting materials and environments, recommending tools or assistive technology, and modeling strategies that promote student engagement, independence, and successful behavior. You will contribute your insights during team discussions and, when appropriate, IEP meetings, ensuring that student strengths, challenges, and progress are clearly represented. You will also help maintain therapy spaces and materials, ensuring a safe, organized, and student-ready environment.
