Bentley School is a K-12 co-educational, independent day school located on two campuses in Oakland (K-8) and Lafayette (9-12), California. While this position could be located at either campus, our current need is for our Upper School campus providing support to the 9-12th grade students.

Criteria

Bentley School seeks a self-motivated Learning Specialist to play an integral role on our Lafayette campus. The successful candidate will align unequivocally with student growth and success, maintaining a growth mindset and participating in robust professional development. This role involves supporting students with identified learning and attention differences while serving as a vital liaison between families, faculty, and outside providers.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Case Management & Advocacy: Manage a student caseload, including writing and maintaining dynamic student learning support plans. Divide student caseloads effectively to ensure personalized support.
  • Executive Functioning Support: Provide direct support to students in developing essential executive functioning, study skills, and academic accountability.
  • Neurodiversity Advocacy: Co-advise family and student advocacy work related to neurodiversity, potentially including student affinity groups or parent networks.
  • Instructional Consultation: Serve as a consultant to faculty regarding differentiated curriculum and strategies to address specific learning differences.
  • Testing Coordination: Manage standardized testing applications and coordinate schedules for accommodations.
  • Cross-Divisional Collaboration: Participate in K-12 learning support alignment and collaborate on transitions for students moving from Middle School to Upper School.
  • Admissions Engagement: Support the Admissions team by reading applicant files and assisting with transfer student assessments.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors degree required; Masters degree in Education or Special Education preferred.
  • Certification: Certification in Educational Therapy or demonstrated experience tutoring adolescents with diagnosed learning disabilities.
  • Experience: 35 years of experience in an interdisciplinary environment.
    • Proven ability to interpret neuropsychological evaluations and IEPs.
    • Experience assisting students with executive function challenges across multiple subject areas.
  • Skills: Proficiency in assistive technology tools and educational technology.
    • Strong written and verbal communication for report writing and parent conferences.
    • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and professional integrity.

Pay Range:

Bentley uses a competitive salary scale, which takes into account experience, education, and skill level. The salary scale for this position ranges from $72,685 for teachers with no prior teaching experience to $140,000 for teachers with over 40 years of prior experience.
