Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Microbiologist to work on our team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls, Idaho with every other Friday off. At Idaho National Laboratory, you'll conduct laboratory research in critical materials and bioenergy, including the study and manipulation of microorganisms to create synthesis pathways for chemicals, fuels, and material recovery, apply a wide range of skills to design and execute experimental programs, and contribute data and input to reports, peer-reviewed publications, and intellectual property development. You'll identify and respond to research opportunities with technical proposals, maintain currency in relevant techniques and instrumentation, serve as a technical resource to others, and mentor junior scientists and interns. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: * Conduct work in critical materials and bioenergy research, including research associated with microbiology, including laboratory-based study and manipulation of microorganisms to create pathways for the synthesis of chemicals and fuels or recovery of materials. * Identify and respond to research opportunities with technical proposals, and secure funding to conduct the research. * Plan and prepare experimental designs and apply a wide range of skills to accomplish those tasks. * Conduct laboratory research and/or development activities to prove new principles and concepts with the collection, assimilation, and interpretation of laboratory data. * Contribute data and input for the preparation of reports, peer-reviewed publications, proposals, and/or generation of intellectual properties. * Develop and maintain currency in a wide range of techniques and instrumentation capabilities determined with technology advancement in a relevant field, and with current literature. * Serve as a technical resource to others in microbiology. May mentor junior-level scientists and interns. * May represent the Department and Idaho National Laboratory in program reviews, technical symposia, and other interface situations. Required: * Level: 2: Master's degree in microbiology or a related discipline and 0 years of experience. * Level: 3: Master's degree in microbiology or a related discipline and 2 years of experience. * Relevant experience determined with the level, which may include laboratory experience obtained in college and some experience obtained through employment.
