Position Summary This position performs the prescribed course of radiation therapy as directed by department policies and procedures and in accordance with professional standards. The role includes assessment, care, and treatment planning for patient populations. Core Functions Performs radiation therapy treatments by following and verifying referring providers’ orders. Uses independent judgment and applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures. Educates patients/families regarding the procedure and treatment to be performed. Demonstrates professional behavior, fosters teamwork, and promotes quality patient outcomes. Operates treatment and treatment‑planning equipment, including simulation, in accordance with departmental policy. Prepares and administers prescribed doses and maintains accurate documentation. Performs prescribed invasive/interventional procedures in accordance with established policies. Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements. Troubleshoots issues and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance. Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors. Adheres to radiation safety practices and ensures the safe receipt, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials using ALARA principles. Is accountable for the ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities related to radiation oncology practice, including maintaining confidentiality of all work information. Assures efficient operation of departmental workflow. Independently performs prescribed radiation therapy procedures according to department policies, procedures, and protocols for patients. Serves internal customers including all levels of radiation oncology, nursing management, medical staff, and interdisciplinary team members; and external customers such as regulatory agencies, patients, caregivers, and family members. Minimum Qualifications Must possess a strong knowledge of clinical care, normally obtained through an associate degree in radiation oncology or a related field. Requires national certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and licensure by the state regulatory agency if applicable. BLS certification required. Demonstrates knowledge of clinical techniques, applications, and equipment relevant to the area of work. Exhibits effective communication skills, human relations skills, and safety awareness. Employees on the Banner University Medical Center Phoenix campus must possess a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at hire and maintain it throughout employment. This is a requirement of the Whole Family Counseling Program held at that facility. Preferred Qualifications Previous radiation therapy experience preferred.
